Caixa Economical Federal, Brasilia Founded in 1861, CAIXA is the main agent of public policy for the federal government and, in one way or another, is present in the lives of millions of Brazilians. This happens because CAIXA - a public bank 100% owned by the Government - not only serves its banking clients, but all formal workers in Brazil, through payments of benefits such as Government Severance Indemnity Fund for Employees (FGTS), Social Integration Program (PIS), unemployment aid, beneficiaries of other social programs and lottery players. Moreover, by prioritizing sectors such as housing, sanitation, infrastructure and services, CAIXA has an important role in promoting urban development and social justice in the country, helping to improve the quality of life, especially in the lower classes.
In addition to the provision of resources, CAIXA supports state and local Governments to effectively monitor and develop plans that promote urban development. Likewise, it encourages the continued improvement of public administration, awarding the more successful initiatives with the Best Management Practices prize.
CAIXA´s performance is also extended to arts, classrooms and racetracks, by supporting cultural-artistic, educational and sports activities.
